Gigzz is the brainchild of Conner. A Gen Z with a penchant for talking. He’s always talking about being an entrepreneur. I encouraged him, but figured it was because he wanted an option other than what was in front of him—high school and then college. I told him to come up with some ideas. He came to me with a few and then he came with this “mom, my friends are trying to find jobs and they are having a hard time. What about a website to help teens find jobs? ”
It was a good idea. Maybe a project he and I could work on.
Mostly for the experience and supporting him. Then we started talking, all of us, and Dave, my partner, brought up the idea of providing more than just jobs, not just jobs like part-time traditional jobs for kids, but offering one-off projects and odd jobs. And, that was the start. I’ve spent my career taking software products and apps to market. And, this has been a transformational project for me.
The vision is simple and hopefully impactful. A secure platform to connect those who want to work with those who need it! And, an opportunity for teens to explore ‘other options’. Working a traditional teen job could be the right experience. But, what if teens could explore other opportunities—like writing blogs for a small business, teaching water polo lessons for a younger kid ten minutes away—lean into sharing their knowledge to make extra money. What if … they learned they loved to teach. But, they don’t like working with the public. Could Gigzz help them shape their ideas about the future of their work. Career? What if … they worked a few Gigz & then realized they prefer a 4-hour block at Burger King. GenZ cares about causes and they want the flexibility to pursue their own passions. Maybe, that’s all we ever really wanted. This just might be the generation who figures it out.
